Sherwood Park, AB. — Long after drama teacher Craig Buchert decided to stage Baskerville, a Sherlock Holmes comedy-mystery, with his junior high students this school year, he discovered renowned Edmonton-based Mayfield Dinner Theatre was producing the same play. “As soon as I found out, it just made sense to go see the Mayfield production,” says Buchert, the drama teacher at Fultonvale Elementary Junior High. “I thought it was an opportunity to get some ideas on how to plot our actors’ moves, deliver lines, and design the sound and lighting.”

After reading the Mayfield’s program, Buchert discovered he knew the lead actor and several members of the stage management team. Following the show, Buchert approached the production manager to ask if he could borrow some props for his students—what he came away with, though, far exceeded his expectations. “Not only did they lend us numerous props, the Mayfield Dinner Theatre also donated most of its professionally designed and constructed set pieces from Baskerville,” says Buchert. “To construct set pieces of the same quality would require spending thousands of dollars—something most schools can’t afford to do.”.

.“It’s an incredible gift,” says Buchert, “and I can’t begin to express our gratitude for their support.”
